I thought I’d just create a little edit of the stuff which I have been loving to slap on my face at the moment. I have combination/oily skin which is prone to a breakout or two. As a result, I have a flurry of blemish marks on my face which have faded over time. I tend to like a bit of coverage on them though as I prefer to have a more even base. It’s late Spring in the UK at the moment and my shiny ass skin doesn’t need a tonne of glowy products. I thought I’d make that clear from the outset as my skin type reflects my makeup choices.
It’s generally a bit a mix and match of most of the products below.
Base: Nars Radiant Longwear foundation in Valencia from the centre of my face outwards, and then Erborian BB Cream in Caramel on the outer edges as the colour is a little too warm for the centre, but I love the finish. I bought the travel size which is going to last me ages because I only use a small dot. I only ever apply half a pump of foundation as I like to have a more sheer coverage; I just built up it where I feel I need it. Then it’s concealer and I have reverted back to Tarte Shape Tape in Tan which is pretty high coverage. Again, I only use one sparse dab under each eye and then blend with a brush. I have come back to this mainly because it had a matt finish and in the warmer weather, it will stay put for longer as I never reapply makeup (other than lippy) throughout the day. If I feel the centre of my face needs setting, I do so with MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Medium Dark.
Eyes: Lashes are curled and I wack some waterproof mascara on them. My favourite and most repurchased mascara is Lancome Hypose Doll Eyes in Waterproof Black. I always have one on the go. I dabble in eye shadow here and there but I’m utterly pants at it so tend to just stick to a bit of eyeliner. I really like Bobbi Brown’s Long-wear Gel Liner in Black Chocolate which I apply to my lash line as thinly as possible. When I’ve made a mess of it, I just mush it with my fingers for a slightly smokey effect. Bish ain’t got time to reapply, we just need to make it work somehow!
Brows: I have only recently discovered the Benefit 24hr Brow Setter and it is such a good’n. I have had lots of clear brow gels in the past, but I think this is going to be a keeper. It sets them in place really well. Either before of after, I use the Benefit Precisely My Brow pencil in Shade 4 to colour in all the patches left behind from 90s over plucking and recent threading disasters.
Cheeks: I know lots of people (and by people I mean Youtubers) swear by cream products in warmer weather, but my slippery face doesn’t always take to them and I often find my face feeling more greasy and less groomed. Having said that, two products which have floated by boat recently are the YSL Touche Éclat Shimmer Stick (basically a highlighter) and the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in No.20. I think I like them both because they have a more cream to powder finish which works for my skin type. I’ve been using these both consistently for a few weeks now and I am a big fan and I’ll keep going with them me thinks. The only other blush I have used is Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in No.370 Elegance. The colours of both are pretty subtle on my skin tone and add just a touch of a natural flush.
Lips: At night I’ve been putting the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask on in Berry and I bloody love it. It feels so nourishing. Don’t ask me what’s in it as I have no bloody idea as the packaging is written in Korean! But is smells and feels like a dream, even my husband has begun to use it before bed.
In the day, I have been opting between lip balm, nudes and a bright/bold colour depending on my mood and whether I have enough time to apply it without getting it on my chin/cheek/nose etc. My current jams are:
- Malin and Goetz Lip Moisteriser, it’s a slightly glossy clear lip treatment balm
- Bobbi Brown Lip Crush Balm in Juicy Date
- Bobbi Brown Lip Crush Balm in Cherry Crush
- Lipstick Queen Rear View Mirror Lip Lacquer in Little Red Convertible (a mother’s day gift which was a hit!)
- Laura Mercier Velour Matt Lip in Fierce and Vibe mixed together
And that’s kinda it. Sometimes it’s all of the above, sometimes it’s just a few bits and pieces.
I hope you found it useful. What’s your go-to face favourites at the moment?
Love and lipsticks,
